A friend asked me what it’s like to kiss a girl and this is what I said: “When you kiss a girl it’s like kissing a soft sunset, it’s warm and beautiful and you just want to be there forever.” I honestly feel like that’s the most real simile I’ve ever made.
Kissing women > Kissing Men
"Most pets will go through a myriad of emotions. They cry, they bark, they fret, they tremble. Many defecate on themselves. They are terrified. For the days that remain for them, they sit waiting for that familiar face or voice. But you don’t see that. The workers see that. The rescuers see that and the volunteers see that. I’ll never forget the day a senior White German Shepard was dropped off. When that car pulled away, the dog let out such a horrifying gut wrenching cry that several of us burst into tears. But that’s the whole point. She’ll never relive that moment, but we will.
Sometimes in rescue we hear the following,” You personalize animals too much. They don’t have feelings.” Well, I challenge folks to go on Google and type in three words” Sad Dog Faces (or Cats) You will not believe the thousands of haunting images that await you. Most of them are pictures taken at shelters. Paws holding on to chain links, noses praying they can escape under wires. Eyes still bright with hope and eyes whose light has long been extinguished.
Please we are begging you, QUIT DUMPING YOUR PETS AT THE SHELTERS ON CRAIGS LIST and to folks you know care. Let’s begin with precious JAX to be both the start and symbol of what we DON’T want to see. 20,000 companion pets alone are killed in Louisville. For those pets who are lucky enough to be saved and find a home, don’t think for a minute it was an easy transition.
On a positive note, we wanted to share JAX’S “After,” picture. This is what you get when you care and when you love. Thank you Lecia and thank you Shamrock.Foundation. But for every dog or cat taken out hundreds will come in their place. It’s simply wrong. Like holding the ocean back with a shovel.
I’ll end here with a quote: “The question is not, ‘Can they reason?’ nor, ‘Can’t they talk? But rather, ‘Can they suffer?” -I think we can collectively say, “Yes they do.”. And I still believe that collectively WE can make a difference.
Animals are not objects. They are people. They are family members. And to those who dump their family members with no thought at shelters wordwide, or abandon them, I have no sympathy for you. Your lack of compassion is repulsive.
I want to cry.
